Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose

As you know, I followed the United States presidential primary season closely, but after Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign I lost interest in the campaign.  Until this week when McCain chose the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin as his running mate.  It seems a clever move.  Palin can appeal to the Clinton supporters who feel she was treated poorly because of her gender.  She can prop up McCain’s conservative credentials.  She’s Christian and anti-abortion…she’s like Republican gold!  Seriously though, it’s a good strategy.

But aren’t things starting to look a little bit the same on both sides of the line?  Obama is a young, inexperienced first term Senator.  Palin is a young, inexperienced, first term Governor.  Obama focuses on change and retooling the political machine.  Palin came to office by promising to clean up the corruption that was rampant in the Alaskan Republican party.  McCain is an elderly, experienced politician.  Biden is an elderly, experienced politician.  They have both run for president before.  Biden is a staunch Catholic that Obama is using to appeal to religious voters.  Palin is a evangelical Christian that McCain is using to appeal to religious voters.

Really I could go on but I won’t cause I hope you see my point.  In an election about change it seems that the old maxim has never been more true:  Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
